My gf's sister in law recently bought and returned a Lexus RX350, because in her words, the seats weren't comfortable—they hugged you too much. This is the first time I've ever heard someone call a Lexus RX's seats over-bolstered. BUT, what brand new SUVs have super plush seats?
She definitely wants something brand new. Her husband has a newish Acura MDX, but she's been stuck with a minivan for several years so I think they might spend a little more (but not too much) more than an MDX. Maybe like $50k at the very most but don't need to go that high.
I suggested a Grand Cherokee, because my old '99 has super comfy seats that feel like over stuffed recliners. But I haven't actually sat in a new one.
Anybody sat in a current style Grand Cherokee, and of so how are the seats?
Any other SUVs you've sat in that have particularly comfy seats?

How much does a Yukon Denali run? I've seen a lot around now and the looks have grown on me.

$62k starting price. I think that's a bit more than they want to spend. Plus she's coming out of a Toyota Sienna and has expressed a desire to get something without a third row of seats.

They don't really make plush seats any more that I know of, unless she wants to step up to an S-Class, Bentley or a Roller.

Really!? An RX350 over-bolstered? That's the dumbest thing I think I have heard in a long time. Are those seats super-Lay-Z Boy-levels of relaxing-ness? No. Honestly I hate the RX seats and my bum hurts after about 3 hours of sitting in them. But they are so far from bolstered I cannot fathom how anyone can reach that conclusion. Unless they had an RX 350 F-Sport which does have 'sportier' seats, and are frankly better than the stock ones.
It's a car, it's not supposed to be a recliner people.

Volvo is known for some incredible seats, and I can attest to this fact. Try the XC60, XC70, or XC90.

I don't know how she could think they're over-bolstered either. She's like 115 lbs. I doubt she even reaches the bolsters.
I'm thinking they were uncomfortable in some other way and she just didn't do the best job of describing how.

They don't need to be super poofy. But just cushy in some way. Point of reference for what I was talking about with my Jeep:

Blows my mind that someone would buy and return a new vehicle because of a seemingly minor gripe. Like, how much money are you losing just so you can sit on recliner-esque seats? Oh well...

At least in the mid-2000's, Volvo had really comfortable seats. I don't know about now, but it's worth a shot.

Just take her dealership to dealership to try seats. If she considers those too soft, she has very selective taste, which is fine, but makes things harder.
Give the Chevy SUV/CUVs a shot. This summer I've driven their entire truck and car lineup (some how not a single one of their SUV's) and they are on the softer side.

I think they voided the sale, so money lost was zero.
I understand her desire for comfy seats. My legs get sore somewhat often and when I try out cars I make sure the seats are comfy. The last car I had, the seats ended up not being comfortable over long distances, and it was one of the things that eventually drove me to get rid of it.
Both of my current cars, I made sure I could get properly comfy in the seats. My Grand Cherokee is noticeably more plush and roomier than my 135is, but I can still comfortably drive long distances in the 135is.

They live like an hour and change away. I'm just emailing a list of suggestions. She did say she was planning to hit up Carmax and try out a bunch of different ones, then probably go buy a new one once she's narrowed it down.

But the regular XC60 might be worth a look.

Assuming it was a brand new vehicle she didn't bother waiting for the seats to break in at all, what about something CPO'ed? I've heard that the X3/X5s have some fantastic seats too so maybe she should go German before Japanese.

99-04 GC's had the plushest seats of anything I've ever sat in. The new ones are definitely not the same. But they are pretty soft as far as new cars go. Might want to consider a regular Cherokee as well.
Remind her that the seats are going to be firm on ANY new car because they're, you know... new.

Funny thing about the MKT. I've heard so many people say it looks like a hearse. Then a few months ago the funeral home in my neighborhood got a new hearse. It's an MKT hearse conversion.

Lightly used Cayenne? Lightly used Cayenne. Depreciation is your friend and there's a bunch that haven't been out of a mall parking lot.
The King Ranch Fords aren't bad, either, but I don't know how often that trimline gets applied outside of pickups.

Volvo seats are some of the most comfortable in the market have her looks at a XC60. The X3/X5 are decent as well. All my clients who have Grand Cherokees say they are very comfortable. There is also the Q5 but that is smaller.

They do tend to keep their cars around for a long time so in this situation it's not the worst thing in the world to buy new.

I get it. I was annoyed about the prospect of my only-farted-on-by-me seats getting totaled out and probably ending up with something that someone else had farted in before. (Well, that and most people do silly things like eat in the car and such on a regular basis...*shudder*.)
What about the Volvo crossover? XC90, IIRC?

In my experience with 4Runners, the seating position is very low down towards the floor, pretty sure she wouldn't like that.

Does it have to be a SUV/Crossover? If not, I would recommend the Ford Flex, 4WD, and it is huge for the money. If it has to be a crossover, maybe the Explorer?

The Grand Cherokee's seats are pretty comfy, but the comfy seat crown in the Chrysler family goes to the Town & Country 30th Anniversary. Those seats are like couches.

I don't think you're going to get the level of plushness you want in a Jeep.
Sit in a new Lincoln Navigator when they come out. Sure, the face is ugly but you won't see it and the seats are the softest of anything late-model my ass has experienced.

How cush are the seats in a Santa Fe? Brand stigma aside, that's a great crossover, despite your comment about not needing a 3rd row, the 3 row Santa Fe, not the "Sport" model is nicely appointed and has shaken off the ugly of previous gen Hyundais.
